Sam's Knitting Projects

I am a self-taught knitter. It took me a year to learn to knit and pearl in the American - "Throwing" - style.

The next year I explored knitting projects from my beginning knitter's book; "I Taught Myself to Knit"

The third year I learned to make socks, and even crocheted some little Cthulhu monsters for Halloween.

This year I had planned on moving into learning to draw and and then next year painting in oils. As a life-long student

I often pick a project to learn for the year. Unfortunately I cannot watch TV and draw - I do most of my knitting and crochet

while I am watching TV.

So I kept knitting socks.

This January I began a cardigan cable knit sweater for my wife.

Life-long students will understand why this lead to me exploring cable knits and creating my own pattern for a

lap blanket for my wife's grandmother and never went back to the cardigan.

Now I am back to socks. Using three and four needles keeps me more involved than knitting o just two. I plan to

finish the cardigan when the weather drops below 100 degrees here in Houston, but having that big heavy project in my

lap during the summer is out of the question.

9/1/11     I am currently working on a pattern from The Little Box of Socks (you can get it from the Amazon link on my home page).

The pattern utilizes a "Strong" heel in which I do not have to pick up stitches. I have only restarted this project 3 times -

I usually begin a project five times so maybe I'm learning. . .
